After a week of celebrating (or more accurately, trying to get through even half of the items on my want-to-do list) the long-anticipated day has finally arrived!
I had fun taking photos of my mermaid pillow for the last nine days, but I expect I will leave it marking 25 for quite some time.
I was (barely) successful in getting two new anniversary essays written and posted in time for today. 'Inspirations for my writing, chapter 3,' and 'The One Against the Many' (how I learned about the avarii through t'DoL) for which I had far too much fun making fake bell curves. Both of them are linked at my newly-rebuilt Essays and Remembrances page. They might make great insomnia busters for some people!
The illustration that I intended to make to commemorate 25 years is underway. It can't be finished until I get a new desktop. (Poser 11 doesn't jive with Vue 2015 for strand-based hair, while Poser 9 is 32 bit rather than 64 and can't handle the figures I want to use...Tertius with Vue 2015 probably can't either.) So that may be a while...hopefully done before I hit 26 years!
The story, 'Relentless,' that was inspired by the illustration, is coming along quite well. My revisions and clean-up tweaks for Geren books 1-3 are (as ever of late) delayed. But I really hope to have them done before I head back to work on Tuesday. That means book 4 rewrites haven't been kicked off yet, but I am champing at the bit for that, and will have more time now that essays are behind me.
All that aside, I remember 25 years from when I started on that first picture, not as an excuse to take off from my job, binge out on goodies, make myself write essays or anything else, but to celebrate how incredibly blessed I am. I had no idea, in mid-February of 1993, that the character I would first draw throughout that year, explore in my mind, and finally become sufficiently committed to that I was able to (fitfully at first) overwhelm my loathing of writing--where he and Geren and the hyarmi would lead me. I had no idea he would become the Defender of Life, the passion of my life, and draw me right into my life's purpose and calling. My love, my legacy, my strongest dream--to realize him and the hyarmi with every bit of intelligence, labor, and skill I possess. I have a name I love--'the Biographer of the Defender' and nine novels with 50+ stories (including 4 novellas), to reveal how this long pursuit has blessed me. A lot of sweat and struggle and learning, a lot of practice and bad habits to try to overcome, a ton of hours and energy (and money too--professional editors are not cheap!). And so, so tremendously blessed.
I am so grateful to God for what He has given me. I try to remember every day to thank Him, at least once. I would rather be the Biographer of the Defender more than anything else in the world, in the universe! I could never have dreamed (or ever even remotely earn) such an incredible gift.
Here's to another 25 years!
