Recently I started making a list of passages of the Bible I've memorized over the years (longer passages, not just one or a few verses). I wanted to have them all gathered together, so that I can review them regularly, and not throw away the work I put into it in earlier years.
Then I had to figure out which English translation of the Bible I had used... Very grateful for BibleGateway or I might never have figured some of them out!
Talk about an incoherent, unorganized mess! Of course since the memorizing spans over 30 years of my life, and new translations have taken hold during that time, and because some of the passages were learned at school or church, and the teacher chose the version to use...no wonder it's disorganized!
Psalm 1 – RSV, high school or church
Psalm 12 – NIV (1984) high school (I composed a really rotten song to sing this one to)
Psalm 19 – KJV, high school, (in class)
Psalm 23 – KJV, school or church
Psalm 32 – NIV (1984), high school (in class)
Psalm 63 – ESV, post 2007
Psalm 73 – ESV, post 2007
Psalm 91 – NASB, college
Psalm 100 – KJV, elementary school (in class)
Isaiah 42:1-9 – NIV (1984), college
Isaiah 55 – NIV (1984), pre 2007
I've probably missed one or two, which might come to me later. But FIVE different translations, what fun!
(Current focus: I Samuel 2:1-10, ESV)
